you heard in the headlines. minneapolis, today, 48. not cold enough to drop a lot of snow.ç starting tomorrow, there are about eight states that will be a good solid collection of snow. this is a real punch of snow. we ja,"%uu)(p& moisture to talk about. we'll talk about all of that in just a minute, george. >> thank you, sam. we'll turn now to the latest on friday's bloody rampage at l.a.x. we're learning new details this morning about how the gunman pulled off this terror industry and what may have motivated it.ç david wright is in los angeles. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, george. pretty much back to normal at l.a.x. if you're traveling through here today, you wouldç be hard-presd to find any signs of the cold-blooded attack that took place just friday. moments before l.a.x. erupted in panic and mayhem --ç paul ciancia arrived like a normal passenger. abc news has learned his roommate dropped him off at terminal 3, unaware ciancia had no ticket and apparently no

plans of boarding a flight.ç according to the criminal complaint filed saturday in federal court, heç walked righ up to the tsa checkpoint, pulled out a smith & westinç assault rifle, and shot tsa officer geraldo hernandez atç point blk range multiple times. he rode up the escalator. he allegedly came back and shot hernandez again, killing him. >> as we know, this is the first tsa employee killed in the line of duty. and it is a significant event. >> reporter: two other tsa officers wwre wounded, james speer and tony grigsby. the fourth victim, a teacher, brian ludmer, shot in the leg. his friends said ludmer and eaglu "=uq1 out of his sweatshirt. as he hid in a closet. >> what you thought he heard wereç police officers out sidef

the door. he opened a crack and saw a police officer. two police officers dragged him out of a closet. they put brian on the wheelchair and ran him out of the terminal to an ambulance.ç >> reporter: ciancia made it all the way down the terminal before airport police finally shot him outside burger king. in his bag, authorities say, a handwritten note, spouuyng a diatribe against the tsa. his former roommate said he had no idea. eally nice guy. a little bit alone and introverted. the roommate thought he was headed home to be with his family. >> he said he was going back to jersey. making amends with his dad. spending holidays with his ç family. >> reporter: just to clarify, that is not the same roommate whoç dropped ciancia off at th airport. as for çciancia, he's hospitalized at ucla medical center under 24-hour guard and heavily sedated. george? >> david wright, thanks very

much. we're going to switch gears now to a little holiday gift for drivers. lower gas prices. and it gets better. experts predicting the cost of ç fuel will continue the fall right through the end of the year. abc news contributor betty liu is here with the story. and good morning to u-betty. >> good morning. lara. it is an extra present this holiday season, under the tree.ç gas prices are now at $3.25 a gallon. that is a low for the year. about 25 cents cheaper than n september. get this. in 34 states, at least one gas station has prices below $3 a gallon. and that holiday cheer is going year, we might see gas near a three-year low. >> that is fantastic news. >> we can buy more shirts. >> yes, matching.ç the question everybody is wondering, why is it happening? some experts are saying this could really boost the economy. >> the why is not so great. the economy is not doing that well. jobs are struggling. and ql"=1:u government shutdown. people have been kind of pulling back and that means gas prices

have been going down. if they stay low enough, that could be the trigger to get into their cars, and into the malls. >> just in time for the holiday shopping. all right, betty, thank you so much. new troubles on the obama care front. internal administration memos revealing for the first time that extensiveç hurdles for signing up for insurance are not limited to the website. abc's jonathan karl has more from washington. good morning, jon. >> reporter: the white house said repeatedly that people canç bypass the problems on the website by sending an application over the mail or on a hotline. turns out that is not the easy fix that the white house suggested it 0 would be. president obama has repea( reassured frustrated consumers that they could easily bypass crash after crash on healthcare.gov by enrolling in other ways. >> in the meantime, you can apply for coverage over the phone, or by mail, or in person. >> reporter: he said enrolling over the phone is easy and quick. once you get on the phone

with a trained representative, it usually takes about 25 minutes for an individual to apply for coverage, about 45 >> reporter: internal obama administration memosç obtained exclusively by abc news from republican congressional investigators show that applications over the phone have the very same problem as those on the website. why? they use the same computer system. determine eligibility no matter how the application is submitted, reads one memo. written by the team in charge of fixing the website. the memo describes filling out paper applications as basically the paper applications allow people to feel like they are moving forward, it reads. at the end of the day,ç we are all stuck in the same queue. in other words, while the president was pitching the same hotline, the call centers was using the same system as the website.

but the white house is saying that the call centers were designed so people could give their personal information and if it could beç entered into t website at a later date when the website is working better, the president didn't say you can enroll over the phone only that you can submit your applicationç as you know, the white house is saying that website will be fixed by the end of the month. >> jon, these troubles are already becoming fodderç on th campaign trail. big elections in new jersey and virginia. and the president was out in virginia yesterday. >> that's right. and they're hoping for some good news out of virginia.ç polls something that democrats could have a clean sweep in what had long been a will be dominated, if the election goes the way the polls suggest, by the democrats. that's good, good news here at the white house.ç >> chris christie, republican, headed to victory in new jersey. let's get the other top stories from josh. a frightening scene at a football game. houston head coach, gary kubiak, you see him there in the blue

sweat suit. he collapsed on the field as he walking to the locker room at halftime.ç he appeared conscious. obviously in pain. carried off the field on a stretcher. he is in stable condition at the hospital at this hour. the team saying he's undergoingç tests today but did not have a heart attack. meanwhile, the texans blew an 18-point lead at that point and they would lose the game.o@ r(tc big story in professional football. accusations that a miami dolphins player quit because he was bullied by members of his own team. now the team is taking action.ç overnight, the miami dolphins suspended starting guard richie incognito amidst allegations he may have harassed and bullied o badly, that martin left the team. >> jonathan martin -- >> source tells espn that ç last sum e-incognito allegedly coaxed martin to front $15,000 to help send a group of players to las vegas, a trip martin didn't even join.

it's one of a string of money-related hazing incidents that's caused martin's representatives to claim he's been a target of harassment, including a lunch room incident last week that allegedly led to martin' departure from the team. the dolphins said theyç suspend incognito for, quote, conduct detrimental to the team, end quote. >> they're expected to find repeated examples of bullying and harassment. >> reporter: incognito said on twitter, in part saying, i want my name cleared. enough is enough. in another incident, martin and other young players were allegedly persuaded to pay a $30,000 restaurant bill for a lavish team meal. miami defensive tackle, jared odrick with the caption, everything tastes better when rookies pay for it was a tweet by another player, jared odrick. the dolphins are working with the nfl to get to the bottom of this.

we'll have more as updates are available. and take a look at this picture. remarkable story in new york. an nyu student became wedged in that two-footwide space between a dormitory and a parking garage. he was stuck for nearly two days there. firefighters had to break through a cinderblock wall to pull him out. turns out he may have ended up there after falling from a window. thankfully, and however miraculously, he's recovering in the hospital today. overseas, a stunning find inside a german apartment building. a local magazine reports more than $1 billion in art stolen by the nazis has been recovered in the mansion of an art dealer's son. including works by picasso a matisse. a total of 1500 works of art were recovered. something of an explosive scene at this soccer game. fans lighting fires in the stands of the rival stadium in serbia. then, as you can see, dancing around the flames, as players looked on in shock. the smock got so thick, referees

had to call off the game. internationally, this is unfortunately something of a common occurrence in the sport. finally, this soccer game in north carolina. also put on hold. not for reasons of flame. just for reasons of fun. and -- cute and adorable. as you see this puppy actually wanting to play with -- wanting to play frisbee. come on. let's go, people. you're a little unclear on the concept. i'm ready to go. and go he did. it only took 716 people in the town, apparently, to corral him. he may still be running. as updates become available, we'll have them for you. i think he won that one. i think it's fair to say. >> i think so, too. we did, too, adorable. thank you, josh. switching gears to a horrifying crash. two skydiving planes colliding at 12,000 feet. but even as one of the planes breaks apart, somehow all nine skydivers and two pilots make it

to the ground safely. alex perez has more from superior, wisconsin. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning, lara. this morning, authorities are working to figure out what exactly happened here. now, this was an experienced group of skydivers. none of them imagined they would be jumping out of a plane to save their own lives. within seconds, this thrill ride turned terrifying. this group of skydivers in superior, wisconsin, just trying to stay alive. this morning, the survivors say there's only one reason they're still living. >> we were all very, very lucky here. >> reporter: lucky because all 11 people, 9 skydivers and 2 pilots, survived this unbelievable crash. saturday night, those skydivers were 12,000 feet in the air, seconds away from jumping, when the two cessna planes they were flying in collided midair. one plane flying over the other, sparking a huge fireball. >> all of a sudden, this weird

noise that -- it was kind of just like a boom. >> reporter: the lead plane's wing breaks off and as the damaged aircraft began to break into pieces, the skydivers jumped, deploying their parachutes as they fell from the sky. the pilot had just seconds to scramble and find an emergency parachute so he, too, could jump to safety. >> he's got to get his seat belt off, get out the door and deploy his chute. >> reporter: and as the trail plane plunged, the skydivers on board also bailed but the pilot of that aircraft was able to gain control and land safely. >> we're not totally sure just yet. but, we think the trail plane probably got in the wash of the lead plane and caused the collision. but we don't know for sure. >> reporter: very lucky indeed. no one suffered major injuries. believe it or not, just cuts, scrapes, and a few bruises. lara? >> all right, thank you, alex. another close call now. this one at cirque du soleil. when an acrobat slipped and fell

during the wheel of death act in las vegas, just days after the company was fined for a fatal accident in june. john muller is here with the details. good morning, john. >> it's called the wheel of death. it almost earned its name. a man that fell from the wheel remains in the hospital. for cirque du soleil, the timing couldn't be much worse. it's called the wheel of death. this morning, one cirque du soleil performer is lucky to be alive after falling from this double-wheeled contraption. that spins performers through the air. sources tell abc news junior espinosa is in stable condition after slipping off the wheel on friday night. cirque du soleil would not confirm his identity but told abc news the show was halted and the artist transported to university medical center. in 2011, lara spencer got a rare behind the scenes look at the wheel of death. this camera shows the point of view of the performer as they

swing, like a pendulum, without mm9ñ according to the las vegas sun, the accident comes four days after the osha fined cirque du soleil more than $25,000 in safety citations. this, after 31-year-old performer, plummeted 94 tweet to her death last june. >> her body seemed out of control. like she was grabbing, you know, at the air. >> reporter: cirque du soleil is appealing the osha ruling. the gravity-defying routines are rigorously practiced and perfected. performers have in the past defended the show's safety record. >> we all have huge safety routines we go through. the artists, the riggers, the staff. there are so many safety measures in place. >> reporter: this morning, the wheel of death has stopped spinning until the injured performer can return to the stage. >> clearly, espinoza is lucky to be alive. he's expected to be out of the hospital in a matter of days. will he ever step foot on the wheel of death again? that remains to be seen. guys, back to you.

lara, i'm sure you have some feelings about the wheel of death. >> i would never. so many of the performers, this is their life. would not be surprising if he did get back. gotta watch the weather now. the tropical storm downgraded. putting a lot of rain across the midwest. >> rain in places that don't need it and rain in places that do. like central, texas. let's talk about this. it's a little bit of sonia. what's left it it right now. sitting in mexico, it's really north eastern central mex doe getting pounded by all that rain. as the low spins in, it will have plenty of moisture to spread into the country. it even has a connection with the snow we're expecting in the middle of the country. because it is the moist feed. northern areas get cold air on top of the moisture. southern areas, warm air. if you break this down, this is today and tomorrow. here tomorrow in the northern areas. but it is about two to three inches of precip coming in those areas. some of this in the northern territories will be snow. just how cold that air is getting into the region. quick look at the big boards to show you what is going on.

[ horn beeps ] okay. and then on the graphic, you'll see the clues that will tell you all you need to know to drive away in a hot, sexy red mazda. >> that's going on all week long. right now, we turn to the latest on the montana newlywed charged with killing her husband by pushing him off a cliff. learning more about what she was during the search for her missing husband when authorities knew full well that she was dead. ryan owens has the story. >> reporter: this morning, federal prosecutors are busy building a case against montana newlywed jordan graham. saying she pushed her new husband, cody johnson, face first over a cliff in glacier national park this summer just said days after their first dance to this song. ♪ everyone wants a safe place ♪ to fall >> reporter: one of the friends said the young bride says she

wanted the body found and the cops out of it. >> in her mind, she's believing if she can get the police out of the case, in other words if the body is found, it's determined an accident, the case is closed, she's home free. >> reporter: prosecutors say she pushed him because she regretted marrying a man she didn't love. her confession came only after she concocted lie after lie to cover her tracks. investigators say she first told them her husband disappeared after going on a joyride with friends. these new documents include an e-mail addressed to the new bride from someone named tony. sent three days after cody went missing. cody got out of the car and went for a little hike and they are positive he fell, and he is dead, jordan. i don't know who the guys were, but they took off. so call off the missing person report. cody is gone for sure.

investigators say that e-mail is a fraud, sent to herself from a computer registered to her father. she's pleaded not guilty. next month, a jury is set to decide if she's a grieving widow who lied out of fear, or a calculating killer whose lies finally caught up to her. for "good morning america," ryan owens, abc news, dallas. >> let's get more on this with dan abrams, our chief legal affairs reporter. even though she's already confessed, these documents hurt her case. >> before, all we knew, she was saying the last thing she knew, she saw him getting into a car with people she didn't know. that's the last thing we heard. now to see the documents, about the lengths that she went to to cover this up, makes it that much more problematic for her. this note that she gets from some guy named tony, right, and you read what she says in the note, i mean, it's so absurd. call off the missing persons report. cody is gone for sure. et cetera. if she's the one who created

that, all to try to lead the authorities away from it, that just makes the case that much easier for the authorities. >> this is still about everything that happened after the fact. there is not a lot of evidence this is pre meditated. >> i think if she came to the authorities and said, here's what happened. we were up on the top. we had been fighting. he scratched me before. he grabbed my arm, i pushed him. i don't think the authorities would have charged her with murder. i think they would have charged her with manslaughter. i think this is a kind of case you'll see plea discussions. she would want something like involuntary manslaughter and almost no prison time. the authorities would be demanding voluntary manslaughter, more significant prison time. i have to believe they'll work out some sort of plea deal. now to the frightening new dash cam video. a truck driver in arizona, allegedly looking at pictures on his phone, crashes into police cars and emergency vehicles. killing one officer.

that driver has been charged with murder. linsey davis has the story. >> reporter: watch closely. that's 33-year-old truck driver jorge espinosa. on the left of the screen. his wallet blocking the view of his dash camera. his empty fuel tanker barreling down an arizona highway at 65 miles an hour when the unthinkable happened. his 10,000-pound 18-wheeler plows right into three police cars and two fire trucks stopped at an accident scene. in one of those cars, officer tim huffman, killed in the crash. now investigators say this newly released video shows that espinosa was on his cell phone at the time of the wreck. according to investigators, his cell phone records show he was online looking at facebook and sites with websites of pictures

of women wearing little clothing. at the time, he said he looked away at a passing truck. see here, there doesn't seem to be a passing truck. you can see his white galaxy 3 cell phone fly in the air. police say he intentionally placed his wallet to block the dash camera while he was looking or manipulating his cell phone. he's now facing 20 felony charges, including second-degree murder. he's pleaded not guilty. in 2011, this truck driver's dash cam caught him talking on the phone before swerving across four lanes into a crushing rollover. in september, this school bus driver was caught with one hand on the wheel and two eyes on her phone. in both of those cases, no one was seriously hurt. unfortunately in this case, this dangerous distraction caught on camera turned deadly. espinosa told the police he never uses his phone while

driving because it is against company policy. but authorities say this was not a one-time thing. that cell phone records showed he used his phone to look at x-rated sites, youtube, and also facebook while driving in the past. he's due back in court next month. that video so jarring, if you text or look at pictures, it may convince you to stop. >> thank you so much. let's turn to sam. sam, you have some kind of cool pictures to show us. >> this even -- i forget these things. the moon is not a fixed difference away from us. depending on the cycle, you can get a totally different look on an eclipse. this was a hybrid eclipse. condition day morning at about 6: 30, visible from nigeria, even the east coast from the u.s. saw it, you won't get a chance to see it because the moon won't be in a far away position until 2023 again. so absolutely amazing. you forget that the moon is not in a fixed position all the time from the planet. that's why -- good morning, jacksonville, 71 degrees. this is part of the big push of cold air.
